Selecting the Right Staff
Maternal Infant and Child Ltd. offers specialized services
in maternal and infant care… because of our specialization
we are able to attract and retain some of the best candidates
in the industry. We make sure our staff meets the highest
standards in expertise as well as inter-personal skills.
You can trust that we have thoroughly screened all our staff.
We look for people who are able to work in a home environment
with highly developed communication skills. They are checked
to have the appropriate skill base, knowledge and experience
to ensure superior care.
Registered Nurses
Registered Nurses are individuals who have completed an approved
nursing program and have passed the examination administered by
the College of Nurses. They must hold a Certificate of Competence
(in good standing with CON) in order to practice nursing in
Ontario. All our nurses also have current CPR and NRP (Neonatal
Resuscitation Program). They also have specialized experience in
caring for newborns and new mothers.
Mother’s Assistant
Many of our MAs are nurses or midwives from other countries.
They have solid experience with newborns and a keen interest
in caring for mothers and infants. All have completed our
in-house certification which includes a breastfeeding seminar
and postpartum theory workshop. They have been fully screened.
Doulas
Our postpartum Doulas have undergone training from either
CAPPA or DONA (the certifying organizations). They have
experience with caring for newborns and new mothers. They
also hold CPR certificates and some have other designations
including RPN or RN.
Lactation Consultants
All our Lactation Consultants are Board Certified, using
the initials IBCLC (International Board of Certified Lactation
Consultants) after their name. This designation is a valuable
credential for identifying a member of the health care team
who has demonstrated advanced knowledge and experience and
who can provide breastfeeding assistance and skilled technical
management of breastfeeding problems.
